Horns were blowing, faces were smiling and music was blasting at the Buy a Bed Campaign hosted by Lakeridge Health Whitby on Saturday September 15th, 2012.

The weather was co-operative this time around after the event was postponed the weekend before due to the wet weather. Ten teams came to race with participants wearing silly hats, wigs, masks and boas. Each team raced their beds 100 metres down Byron Street North in Whitby, between Colborne and Dunlop. Two teams raced at a time. For each team, one member was in the bed with four others pushing it. The Whitby Club of Rotary Sunrise team unfortunately lost in the 3rd round, but had a great time!

The Lakeridge Health Whitby Foundation has almost met its fundraising goal of $200,000 raising $175,000 to date. The Foundation plans to use the money to purchase new technologically advanced beds to replace 67 old beds. There are 72 rooms in total with five new beds already on order. The beds will help elderly patients with their overall rehabilitation process as they can be lowered all the way to the ground as well as raised to a very high position.
