My arriving welcome!I arrived alive (minus one suitcase.)

Monument to the Unknown SoldierI thought I'd be okay with my 30 something pound carry on.... but it turns out I wasn't. This nice man at the boarding gate said that it was to big and that they would check it and send it straight to Roma. Except it never got here. The man at the customer service desk said that they don't know where it is or when I might possibly see this suitcase again. Needless to say he didn't exactly fill me up with hope.

The transfer at Frankfurt went very smoothly. I loved my time in Germany! It wasn't long but it was enough to hear people speak German which I think is such a fun language to hear!

After getting to Rome, my first meal was of course spaghetti with tomatoes and olive oil. It was delicious! The food here is homemade and vey healthy for you. Yesterday we went to the center of Rome to go shopping and see the monuments. It is so pretty! I absolutely love this city!

I saw the monument of the unknown soldier, the coliseum and many fountains. It was beautiful. People walk alot here, there's lots of cobblestone streets filled with cafe's and fountains. Me and Renato (my host father) agreed that the only thing fat in Italy is their pet cat. When they do drive it's crazy!

Heather and AmandaThey have exceptional parallel parking skills, it's actually like a super power if you ask me. They like to maximize the parking potential of every single millimeter of space possible. Or they just park wherever looks suitable. Once last night when stopping to get gelato, I asked Renato if it was okay that half of the car was sticking out into the middle of the street. He shrugged and said "Welcome to Italy." Paula (host mom) was explaining to me earlier that it's in style to have lots of dents on your car because everyone bumps into everyone here.

I asked if it ever makes people mad, she said she could get mad, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. It's "la dolce vita." I think I'd be much better driving in Canada if we brought this mentality to the citizens there.

Everyone is very friendly here and I'm settling in nicely.
