And it's officially over, my days as a Rotary Exchange student have come to an end. I arrived on the 11th to our home and native land completely exhausted but happy to see everyone again. The night before was in Rome spending it with friends who I've acquired throughout the year. It actually turned from a night outing to a morning outing as well and I got to see my first and only sunrise over the city of Rome!
The flight was nice and I managed to get a few hours of sleep. My seat was beside a nice Torontonian and we had a great conversation about worldy things and our travels.
In Canada it's a really weird feeling to go through, as if I'm walking through a ginourmous never-ending Deejavu! It seems like my entire year was just a dream because everything here is the same and I feel as though I never ever left to begin with. Only until I remember how much I've actually changed during the year abroad.
So far Every single day that I've been back I've discovered some Italian that I just so happen to run into. The first being at the grocery store, then my next door neighbour to the cottage, then a stranger on the sidewalk. Italians are everywhere! Which is nice because I hope to keep up with the language and not loose it. This week I'm planning a visit to Little Italy to see what I can find.
As for ordinary life now, school will start back up soon, Job searching already has, and after one semester back at highschool who knows what else will be on the agenda.
The New outbound student Emily Loucks and I had a chance to meet up the day of her departure and it was incredible to relive the departure experience with her and her family. It's amazing how looking back now the year seemed to fly by, but during the tough days it went by so slowly! Emily will be the new blogger for 2010-2011 writing to you from Brazil about her newly started adventure.
It's been great sharing my experiences with all of you and I thank you all for your time and especially the ROTARY WHITBY SUNRISE CLUB. Words can not even begin to express how grateful I am for this experiencce and for the Rotary Club and their efforts. It may not seem like it from the outside but this program has succeeded with the rotary goal of creating world peace, even if only one mind at a time. I've learned many things from being a foreigner for a year and how life is from someone elses shoes. Even though it was not an easy experience from day to day life, it's the ending result that I would not trade the world for.
Again A HUGE thank you to Rotary for the experience of a lifetime. Ciao Belli!
