Rotary Outdoor Gym

The Rotary Club of Whitby and the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise have teamed up with the Town to turn that dream into a reality with the construction of an outdoor gym at Kiwanis Heydenshore Park. The outdoor gym, manufactured by Nova Scotia-based company GreenGym, is equipped with 10 pieces of workout equipment that combine typical gym exercises with durable weather-resistant machines. The fitness equipment ranges from cardiovascular endurance to upper and lower strength training, as well as an accessible piece that accommodates a wheelchair. The outdoor gym equipment was purchased by the Rotary clubs at a cost of about $30,000 and the remaining project expenses, including construction and installation, were covered by the Town for about $50,000. Town staff will also be responsible for maintaining the site. The outdoor gym was the brainchild of Dr Dave McAskill, and the bricks were quarterbacked by Don Fleming
